Introduction
[muuda lähteteksti]Jaan Künnap is an Estonian photographer, mountaineer and trainer-instructor. Thousands of his photos have reached Wikimedia Commons, the media repository of Wikimedia. He has been chosen as the wikiphotographer of a year in 2019, 2020 and 2023.
He began his job as a diver on a rescue ship during the 1960s and has been an active mountaineer and photographer since the 1970s. In 1987, he received the prestigious Snow Leopard award. In order to receive the honour, he had to climb four mountains, 7,000 m and above, within the Soviet Union.
Subsequently, we shall demonstrate a section of Künnap's photos from the years during which Estonia, then occupied by the Soviet Union, regained its independence.
